What would you do if one morning you woke up in a new DXCC country?
On the morning of May 22, 2006 Ranko Boca, YT6A, a leading DXer and
contester in what used to be Serbia-Montenegro, got up on the always
beautiful and sunny coast of the Adriatic Sea and looked over the
crystal clear waters of Kotor Bay. The previous day’s popular vote was
close, but Montenegro was now ready to declare its independence as the
fifth spin-off (joining 9A, S5, T9 and Z3) of the former Yugoslavia.

I was pleasantly surprised to be invited by Ranko YT6A to be a speaker at the first SKY Contest Club Hamfest to be held in the lovely town of Herceg Novi, Montenegro in March 2000.
As a US citizen, I had my doubts about traveling in this part of the world but once there, the generosity of our hosts and the friendly people of Montenegro quickly erased my uncomfortable feelings. I would recommend this festival to any ham, and I am told the SKY Contest Club will put it on again next year(2001). The facilities and accommodations available in Herceg Novi are very good, and the food is excellent. |

WRTC-2006 featured an exciting race between the top-scoring teams. A detailed study of their logs hghlights many excellent operating tactics (and some occasional clinkers). Every contest has its great stories and moments of frustrations. The teams analyzed here share a few of those with us as well.
Lets see what we can learn, and what can be applied to other contesting situations back home.

I was very pleased to get invitation from Contest Club Finland, and
Martti, OH2BH, to be their guest and to have presentation on 12th CCF
& OHDXF Contest and DX Meeting, 19-21 January 2007. Actually, I was
Martti's guest and he organize one week trip from South to North
Finland for me and my daughter Milica, giving us opportunity to see
almost all Fins natural beauties, to meet many HAM radio friends I
meet on radio over the past 25 years and to understand meaning of Fins
four S – Sibelius, Sauna, Sissu and Saatana. |
